Danny Boyle’s idea was simple and beautiful - Pages of the Sea created a moment to say goodbye, together, to the millions of men and women who left their shores during the war, many never to return. Carol Ann Duffy had written a poem especially for the moment, to be read beside the portrait. This is the result.
